Terms and Conditions
Last updated: 2026-09-18
These terms govern your use of Gloss Read at https://www.glossread.com ("the Service"), operated by Bart Solutions, EASEY COMMERCIAL BUILDING, 253-261 HENNESSY ROAD, WANCHAI, HONGKONG. ("we", "us"). By signing in or using the Service you accept these terms. If you do not accept them, please do not use the Service.
1. What the Service does
Gloss Read is a reading aid. You paste a passage in one of the supported languages and the Service breaks it into words, shows the pronunciation and a short meaning for each, gives a translation of every sentence, and, when you ask for it, an AI explanation of a grammar word, of how a sentence was translated, or a proofreading of a sentence you wrote. Text you submit is sent to our AI provider for processing; see the Privacy Policy.
2. Your account
You sign in with your email address. We email you a six-digit code, valid for ten minutes; five wrong attempts cancel it. There is no password.
Keep access to your email account secure. Anyone who can read your email can sign in as you.
An account is for one person. Do not share it.
Tell us at [email protected] if you believe your account has been used without your permission.
3. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
submit material you have no right to use, or whose processing would infringe someone else's copyright or other rights;
submit unlawful material, or use the Service to produce or distribute unlawful material;
use the Service to build or train a competing product, or to extract its glosses, translations or explanations in bulk;
access the Service by automated means, or attempt to work around the character allowances, rate limits or sign-in;
attempt to disrupt the Service, or to gain access to accounts, systems or data that are not yours.
We may suspend or close an account that breaks these rules, or that puts the Service or other readers at risk.
4. Your content
You keep your rights. Text you paste remains yours.
You give us permission to process it for the purpose of providing the Service: to store it in your history, to send it to our AI provider for glossing and explanations, and to keep the result so that reopening a passage costs you nothing.
Identical passages share a stored result. To avoid paying to gloss the same text twice, a gloss is stored against the exact text, language pair and model that produced it, and may be served to any account that submits exactly the same text in the same pair. Do not paste confidential material.
Deletion. You can delete any passage from your history. Its text, translation and explanations are removed; only the character count stays, so that your usage record remains correct. Copies may persist briefly in server logs and backups before those are rotated or overwritten.
We do not sell your content, and we do not use it for advertising.
5. AI output
The glosses, translations and explanations are generated by an AI model. They are usually right and sometimes wrong. They are offered as a reading aid and not as a certified translation, nor as professional, legal, medical or academic advice. Check anything you rely on. You are responsible for how you use the output, including in study, work or publication.

You are responsible for how you use the output, including in study, work or publication.
6. Plans, characters and payment
Usage is counted in characters. Every character of a passage you gloss counts, apart from spaces and line breaks. Reopening a passage from your history is free, and so is submitting a passage identical to one of your own already glossed in the same language pair. Each AI answer counts a flat amount: 50 characters to explain a grammar word, 100 to explain a translation, 100 to proofread a sentence; reopening an answer is free. A single passage may be up to 5,000 characters.
The free plan includes 5,000 characters per calendar month, reset at midnight Hong Kong time on the first of the month.
Paid plans are billed monthly in US dollars through Stripe, and their allowance runs with the Stripe billing period. Current plans and prices are shown on the website and may change; a change to your own plan's price will be notified before it takes effect.
Unused characters do not carry over to the next period.
Upgrades take effect immediately. Downgrades and cancellations take effect as described at checkout and in the customer portal; your current plan keeps working until the end of the period you have paid for.
Refunds: [state your policy, for example: payments are non-refundable except where required by law; you may cancel at any time and keep access until the end of the paid period]. Payment processing is handled by Stripe under their own terms; we never receive your full card details.
Taxes: prices are exclusive of any taxes that may apply in your country unless stated otherwise.
7. Availability and changes
We aim to keep the Service running but do not guarantee that it will be uninterrupted or error-free. We may change, suspend or withdraw features, and may rely on third-party services (AI, payments, email, hosting) that can fail or change. Where we plan to withdraw the Service altogether, we will give reasonable notice and stop charging.
8. Our rights
The Service, its software, design, wording and images are owned by us or our licensors, and are protected by copyright and other laws. These terms give you permission to use the Service, not ownership of any part of it.
9. Ending your use
You may stop using the Service at any time and ask us to close your account by writing to [email protected]. We may suspend or close your account if you break these terms, or if we are required to. On closure, your passages and their glosses are deleted; records we must keep for accounting or legal reasons are retained for as long as the law requires.
10. Liability
To the extent the law allows:
the Service and its output are provided "as is", without warranties of any kind, including accuracy or fitness for a particular purpose;
we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, lost profits, lost data, or loss arising from your reliance on AI output;
our total liability for any claim relating to the Service is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim arose.
Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.
11. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. The date at the top shows when they last changed. Where a change materially affects you, we will give notice by email or on the website before it takes effect. Continuing to use the Service after that means you accept the updated terms.
12. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of Hong Kong SAR, and the courts of Hong Kong SAR have non-exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute.
